Welcome - I'm Maxine Robertson, a psychotherapist working with women navigating change.
If you're a woman at a crossroads in life or work you may find yourself wondering, "what now?" Something inside is nudging you towards a next chapter that feels more meaningful or aligned with who you are now.
I specialise in working with women in the second half of life who are contemplating change - career shifts, scaling back from demanding roles, preparing for retirement or reshaping life after children have left home. Together we can clarify what you want this next chapter to look like and support you to take action.
Is this you?
You've achieved what you thought you wanted but feel flat or restless or perhaps you don't feel you've achieved anything at all.
You're wondering "is this it for the next 15 -20 years?"
You have capabilities you're not fully using.
You feel caught between staying safe and making change.
You're dealing with ageism, invisibility or being undervalued.
You want more meaning in life.
You might be considering a major career pivot or transition.
You're scaling back your work or moving towards retirement
Then, I could be just the support you need at this time.
I work online so wherever you are in the UK or Europe- whether that's Oxford, Southampton, Liverpool, or Munich - my sessions are accessible to you so long as you have a satisfactory internet connection. I offer focused support for women who are broadly functioning day to day but who feel stuck restless or ready for change.
*Note for existing/returning "counselling" clients*
Subject to availability, I continue to offer psychotherapy for clients already in ongoing therapy with me or who have worked with me in the past

In addition to being a psychotherapist and coach, I am also a wife, mum and carer for numerous pets. I love nature and wildlife, interests which are easy for me to indulge due to me living in a rural area. I am both a cat and dog person and own far too many books!
Before training as a psychotherapist, I made several career pivots but also spent time as a stay-at-home mum. I know what it's like to reimagine your professional life and step into something new.
In my practice, I have worked with adults of all genders from many different walks of life including academics, students, researchers, lecturers and university staff, lawyers, medical professionals, people connected with rural farming communities, performing arts etc. More recently, I have been drawn to working with mid life women who feel stuck, who sense that the way they've been living no longer fits or perhaps have lost their sense of purpose.

I regularly attend workshops, seminars and courses to keep my skills up to date.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy I abide by their codes of ethics.
I am on a register that has been accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. This register was established by the Government to ensure that the public are able to choose safe, ethical and competent professionals.
Together we can focus on:
Clarifying you as a person - exploring your skills, talents, personal qualities and values - what truly matters to you now.
Reviewing your life - looking at lifestyle, relationships, work, health, daily routines - identifying what drains and nourishes. We may touch on the past bearing in mind it shapes us.
Look beneath the surface to address unconsious patterns, limiting beliefs and the driving force behind your emotions.
Clarifying what you want. Examining possibilities for the future - work direction, new projects, hobbies, roles and ways of living.
Supporting the shift through regular sessions - trying things out, adjusting and building confidence.
Our focus will be on practical change. This won't be careers advice or job hunting support. It's deeper work about identifying values and what you want your life to look like, which may or may not involve a career change. Our work together can combine the forward looking goal oriented nature of coaching with the psychological depth needed to understand and change deep seated behaviour patterns.
